Tonight I Light A Green Candle For Prosperity~

Tonight I light a green candle for prosperity!

No chants, or words - just a lit green candle sitting by an open window (thank goodness the weather is nice tonight!) to call and welcome prosperity into my home!

I'm quite sure that this is not an original kind of spell. It just "came" to me as I was in the room and there was a green candle "staring" at me so I decide that since the color green is associated with prosperity - I would light the candle tonight.

Do you think that seeing the candle and getting the "inspiration" to light it and put it near an open window was a calling of some kind? I kind of think that it was.

I should also add that I just noticed on my blog that tonight is a new moon - and I didn't even know this when I lit the candle!

Of course the new moon is a good to do spells that have to do with wanting to start something anew. It is also a good time for spells when you want to increase something (in my case prosperity) because this is the time when the new moon is waxing which means that it is increasing in shape (and power) and I didn't even know this when I lit the candle! I really definitely think that this was a sign - casting a spell at almost the perfect correspondence time of the moon!

The Witch's Bottle

I have to admit that when I first saw this term I was very intrigued. Here is a further explanation of what a witch's bottle is:

"
THE WITCH’S BOTTLE

The Witch’s Bottle is a very ancient type of spell, which has countless
variations. The idea of performing a spell and sealing it in a jar is as old
as the manufacture of jars, and may be regarded as a portable version of
burying a spell in the Earth -the jar here representing the womb of the
Mother.
Many examples of this sort of spell have been found by archeologists,
though modern versions tend to be rather different from ancient ones -partly
due to the difference in materials readily available for magical working. In
ages past anthropomorphic jars were especially popular for this sort of
working, the jar itself then taking on the character of a spirit helper to
aid the spell’s unfolding. Sometimes the whole jar would be made in the
likeness of a human being, or
animal, sometimes only the face would be shown. The so-called BELLARMINE
JARS, bearing the likeness of the Old God -often in tripple form- were
commonly used for this sort of undertaking and are strongly associated with
it.
Today, we commonly use any sort of jar or bottle that appeals to us, or
is convenient to use. Decorative jars are often favored, but ordinary glass
jars and bottles -either plain or self-decorated- serve just as well.
For this particular Witch’s Bottle, you will need the following things:

A small jar -such as a baby food jar, or a medicine bottle.
A larger jar -such as a canning jar, or a decorative canister.
A bit of paper and ink -red ink would be preferable.
Some herbs -a combination of Parsley and Sage might be a good general choice.
A bit of essential oil -vanilla might be a good choice.
Some stones -aquarium gravel would be good, as it is small and easy to handle.
A quantity of water.

Choose a time when you will be able to work unhindered. If possible it
is best to make the bottle during the Waxing Moon.

This really looks like something that I would like to try myself!

Practical Magic

I saw this movie a few days ago and practically fell in love with it! In case you haven't seen the movie I won't give all of it away. But this is what I will say about it:

Basically its about 2 sisters who come to terms with themselves about being witches.

It seems witches run in their family since back in those old Salem days. When their parents both die the sisters go live with their aunts (masterfully played by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest).

First of all I have to say that the house that they lived in was absolutely gorgeous and I found out later that the house was built specifically for the movie but then it was torn day afterwards!

I LOVED the way that house looked and that is one of the main reasons why I like this movie. They also had a greenhouse where they grew herbs and they were always making some kind of magic potion in that gorgeous kitchen!

Unfortunately there were some parts of the movie that I didn't like and mainly it was the fact that they were taunted and a little ostracized for being witches - particularly their children as well - but when a town member needed a spell guess who it was that she went to!

I also like the line from the movie that said that you can't dabble in witchcraft and then look your nose down at it - which I agree with 100%.

There is also a cute spell that one of the characters casts as a child where she writes down quantities that she wants in her perfect man - quantities that she makes so unusual and rare that she believes that the spell couldn't possibly come true - but guess what? It does!

I think I enjoyed the scenery in this movie more than I did the movie! The witches lived on this property that was close to the water and the town looked so quaint! One could almost say that it looked picture perfect!

I have decided that this movie is definitely a keeper for my library!

I Think That A Rainy Day......

I think that a rainy day is good for one's soul!

I happen to be fortunate that I can work from home and for this I am very grateful!

It has been raining on and off since yesterday and this is good for my garden. It is good for me also because I was actually able to start my garden this year and have already planted some vegetables like beans and peppers.

I decided to start my garden and try not to worry about the things that are bothering me while I continue to work on solving my problems.

My garden also relates to one of my chosen paths as a green witch and kitchen witch. You see I have already harvested some garlic chives from my garden and I used it in some of my pasta sauce! What a great feeling it is to be able to add something from the garden that you grew yourself into the food that you are cooking!

I plan on having a great garden this year!

Also this rainy day gives me a chance to catch up on some work that has to done inside my house as well - both professionally and personally!

Deciding to take my chosen path as hedgewitch has shown me to take a deeper appreciation of nature! While some people may consider rainy days dull and dreary I have the feeling that it gives nature a chance to nourish the elements and to an additional extent - my own soul as well! For right now I am enjoying a nice hot cup of tea with classical music playing in the background as I work at the computer and catch up on my email and my professional work as well.

I know that some of those who are new to or interested in witchcraft think that it all has to do with spells and magick but to me this isn't the entire meaning of it. For me I think that there is a deeper meaning in that one has to get in touch with one's soul - working on yourself from the inside before you start working on the outside things.

Until next time

Blessed Be!

Etsy?

I found this very interesting website! It's called Etsy and I wanted to investigate it more because I have seen cute little graphics about it on other people's websites and blogs.

Etsy is a site where you can buy and sell handmade products - including handmade jewelery, bags and even some clothing - of which some are knitted and / or crocheted. I also liked seeing the various food-related products for sale - especially the different kinds of tea! I love having a "spot of tea every now and then!

But you know what else it got me to thinking about? Me and the kinds of "crafts" that I myself have created and the fact that I even have the ability to do so!

What can I do? Well of some of the products that I have seen on Etsy, I have come to realize that I can knit, crochet and especially SEW - since I'm always repairing and mending stuff! (I also like to cook too!) I have seen a lot of cute things being sold on Etsy that look like the kind of thing that I could whip up!

Another thing too is that all the skills mentioned above are also very relaxing things to do and I especially like doing it while watching a good movie!

It's also taking me back to a time that was more simpler where being able to do things like knitting and crocheting didn't seem to be so old-fashioned - in fact it was sometimes a necessity.

And that is reminding of why I chose to be a hedgewitch in the first place which is because the meaning to me is of the traditional witch that uses the supplies that they have at hand! (Think I'm feeling a past-life flashback coming on!)

It's also got me curious about what my fellow witches and reader have as hobbies and/or talents such as the above?

Now that I have acknowledged (both to myself and to you) my "other talents - let's hear about yours!

And - PS - this just gives me more pictures that I have to post which now includes things that I have made!

An Interest In Cemetaries?

While I was eating dinner a few nights ago I was looking for something interesting to watch on television as I ate my meal. Lo and behold there was a program coming on my local public service tv station and it was about cemetaries. It was an hour long program and I watched the whole thing!

I do have an interest in cemetaries mostly because they look so peaceful - especially when they are surrounded by a lot of green nature! While I have always known that there have been (and still are) people that are interested in them this is the first time that I have seen an entire show devoted entirely to them.

I'm not too crazy about the ones that have all of their plots so close together but I understand that there are some like that.

I also think that it is a tradition of one faith where they can't be buried in the ground - therefore the stone structure that surrounds them.

People come from all over the world to see the grave sites of famous people!

Some cemetaries have additional benefits to their environment such as special kinds of flowers. Some of them even give tours!

There is a lot of history surrounding a lot of these cemeteries and groups of people will come out to help acknowledge certain people and family members that they have lost! Some people leave memorabilia besides the gravesites of famous people and others plant flowers.

This also reminds me too that I should (if I'm allowed) do the same thing at my own parents' gravesite because they are buried close together.

I never thought of cemeteries as "creepy" or spooky - just very peaceful!

Rain, Rain, DON'T Go Away!

I just don't know what it is about me and the rain! I was reading a post on someone else's blog about how they were having rain and it was just a "bummer" for them. I kinda feel the exact opposite way!

Just had some heavy rain a few days ago and for me it felt oddly comforting! The sound of the rain was so comforting and I felt all nice and cozy inside my house with the heat going but I also had a view out of my kitchen window to see how it looked outside! It was like the trees were welcoming the rain. Even though the skies were darker there was still some activity going on outside. I could see lights from other houses and I was just imagining the activity that was probably going on. Just because its raining outside doesn't mean that there isn't any activity going on inside!

There's always plenty to do inside (at least for me) when its raining outside. This last rain spell I spent some time doing my income taxes - along with a nice hot cup of tea with honey and lemon!

Even when I'm out in the rain and the time and my mind are just right it almost feels as though the rain and I are one - sounds kind of silly doesn't it? But I think that is what is accomplished when you relax your mind and let go of any stress and anxiety that you are carrying. You feel peaceful and serene!

"Treasures" Of The Natural Kind!

I'm working on my patience! I have come to find out that the more patient I am the more that favorable things happen and ironically the more I get done! With that being said....

I was raking leaves yesterday! Now the fact that I actually got able to get out and rake leaves is a good thing in and of itself because I have been having financial concerns that took up the majority of my brain waves. I was feeling bad about them and worrying about them which I know only adds weight to the problem and makes the problem far more worse! So I started to think about all the things that I have to be grateful for and believe there are a lot of things that I have to be grateful for! And so I went out and raked leaves! I was doing this because my area provides pickups for leaves. I was also doing to get outside and be outside - its always advised to be a part of nature as much as you can. Another reason why I was doing it is because the more work I do outside the house the more it looks like someone is taking care of the outside of the house.

So I'm raking leaves and taking my time because I know that I don't have to do it all in one day because I have a few days before the scheduled leaf pickup. I'm taking my time and remembering all the things that I am grateful for.

Like I said before I found out and I am learning that the more patient and less stressed I am the more that the world opens up to me. And this was true while I was raking up the leaves. You see there were branches that I have to break up because they fell during some past storms and while I was doing that I found some great branches that I can use elsewhere!

I always wanted a "natural" wand and now I have several pieces to choose from. I also saved some of the stronger branches because I'm going to use them in my garden to help hold some of my plantings. Being outside also gave me time to reflect on all the possibliities that I have for arranging things the way I want them to. I already have a birdbath and I was also thinking about adding a birdfeeder or a small bird house.

Plus I have a lot of other ideas too! I was going to add a cute picture here but Blogger is acting "wonky" and it won't let me upload any pictures so I saved the picture and hopefully I'll be able to post it soon!

By the way I'm enjoying all the Halloween-ish things going on now including watching the old horror movies (and some new horror movies as well) and I'm thinking of adding some Halloween decorations around the house!

I would also love to hear the Halloween plans of my fellow witches!

The First Day Of Autumn!

I just could not let this day go by and not reflect on this being the first day of Autumn! It is this time that Mabon is also being celebrated!

Mabon is my most favortie of all! I love the fall seasons and the cooler temperatures. But the season is about more than that.

Mabon is the time to harvest all that one has and celebrate that harvest. It is also a time of preparing one's self for the upcoming winter.

There are a lot of things that I have to be grateful about and even though I can't celebrate the beginning of Mabon in the way that I like I will be able to do it in a few days! I even have my grocery list of the Mabon-related things that I want to buy - like nuts, pound cake and even a nice bottle of wine to enjoy quiet times of reflection and meditation!

Attitude, The Ultimate Power!

I have added a new link to the side of my blog. It is a link to another blog that posts about Attitude and how having a good one will affect you in all areas of your life!

Attitude, The Ultimate Power!

I have just spent an exhausting time reading through the many posts of this blog! And the reason is because there are many posts that I was interested in reading!

Dealing with the negative thoughts in my mind is something that I am constantly working on and finding this blog was great! (Maybe it was even a sign to point me to somewhere that would help me deal with this). And I'm now glad that I found this blog!

I Had Another "Experience" With The Rain Today

Sometimes it just feels like nature is saying "I'm going to give you a little break today".

In the past I have wrote about my "strange" experiences with the rain and the same "experience" happened to me today!

I went to my local store which is a few blocks away so I walk there. Now I had seen that it had been raining since early this morning but there was something that I needed to get at the store. So I got my umbrella and started on my way. After all it hasn't rained here in a while and we surely needed the rain so there was nothing really to complain about.

As I stepped outside (with my umbrella) I noticed that while it was wet outside it wasn't raining so I carried my umbrella with me and went on my way! (As a side note here I remember reading about how one should get out and enjoy nature every once in a while and that is what I decided to do as I walked to the store.)

I enjoyed not being rained upon as I walked to the store but I had my umbrella ready and waiting just in case it did start to rain. It didn't! So I walked to the store, took in a lot of nature and walked back home.

About 5 minutes later it started to storm!

Isn't that something! And the very same thing has happened to me many a time!

Now there have been one or two instances of me being out in the rain when it was actually raining but my thoughts were that nature was telling me that even though it gives me a "break" sometimes don't take it too much for granted. It is a gift that I am giving you.
