When You're Going Through Times of Adversity

I found this very good article on a blog. Since it can't be reprinted without asking permission I'm including a link to the blog and the specific article.

http://journals.aol.co.uk/sbrisc/a-life-coach-less-ordinary/entries/2006/10/19/rule-number-2/1032

As the article so wisely points out we all go through times of adversity. And any advice that we find that is helpful should be shared with others and that's what I'm doing here.

I'm taking this advice to heart and will practice it in my life.

Getting One of My Dreams Fulfilled!

One of my dreams has always been to be able to be comfortably trapped in by a snowstorm. I'd have all of my supplies right here with me and I wouldn't have to step outside unless I wanted to. Well it has happened to me today!

The weather outside is just terrible! Accidents are occurring everywhere and there are delays at the airport. Schools are closing early and I can hear the sleet coming down outside.

Meanwhile I am nicely tucked away inside my house with the radio playing soft music in the background and my cat is in the next room where I can see her and she can see me! I decided to open the curtains in the kitchen where I was having a light breakfast of pasty and tea. Later on for dinner I'm going to have the stew that I made a few days before. Stew is a perfect meal to have in weather like this! It's almost as if the stew was made just for this occassion!

Mind you I still have dreams about being in this kind of situation and they involve me and having a fireplace! I haven't given that dream up!

What I am trying to say is that you should never give up on your dreams! I'm going through a period in my life where everything is not how I want it to be and I have learned that I have to focus on how I want it to be and not focus on how I don't want it to be. Does that make sense? Yesterday I was just surfing online and looking at websites for inspirations and advice. Basically they all said that in order to have the life you want you have to already see it and believe it in your mind. It's just as simple as that. But its not all that simple because (at least in my case) those negative thoughts and negative images always show theirselves in my mind. I was even watching a rerun episode of "Frasier" and in it Niles was giving advice to a basketball player who was in a slump (Sounds like me) and the advice that he gave was to picture yourself actually achieving what it is you want. (There's that advice again!) And when a negative thought comes into your mind think of a pleasant thought - something like a pleasant childhood experience. All of it is good advice and I have to work on this more! Those negative thoughts and images seem as though they are trying to push their way into my positive thoughts. And from the advice on the webpages that I have seen the solution to that is to find out why those negative thoughts and images keep pushing their way in. Do I think that I don't desearve happiness and abundance? Why do I think that? The advice states that happiness and abundance and wealth is everybody's birthright! That goes for me and you and everybody else that you can think of!

Incense

Incense and burner

Well I bought my first piece of incense a few days ago. I was always curious about them. I'd see them all the time in stores and wanted to buy them but I just didn't know what to do with them?

Now that I have started to meditate on a regular basis adding incense as part of my tools is what I wanted to do. Now the first time I used them I put them in a long vase but I discovered that as the ashes burned, they dropped so I have to figure out what I'm going to use to catch the ashes. I have done a little researching online and I found the picture above. I figure I can use that as a basis for what kind of burner that I can use. My first idea is to use one of the old ashtrays that are around and fill it with sand. Of course now I have to find some sand somewhere! But in the meantime I'm going to try the ashtray part.
